Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.”

Matthew 19:14

Sunday School at Christ on Capitol Hill is a time to share God’s Word with the pre-school through 8th grade children. Our classes this year are grouped in the following manner:

Pre-K, Kindergarten & 1st grade   Sunday School - Godly Play

2nd, 3rd,  4th & 5th grade

6th, 7th & 8th grade

High School students head here.

In the pre-K - 1st grade classroom, “Godly Play” is used - an imaginative, interactive method for presenting the stories of the Bible. Children are asked wondering questions to express their understanding of the story, and how they are experiencing God and Jesus in their lives. What a blessing to hear the Word of God through our children’s thoughts and actions!

For the 2nd - 5th graders, children are presented with their own Bible during a worship service in the fall if they have not received one in a previous year. Families are asked to join with them as they are presented their new Bible by their Sunday School teacher. On Sunday mornings, this class uses Spark Sunday School materials from Augsburg Publishing to explore their Bibles and grow in faith together.

The 6th, 7th & 8th grade class (our Confirmation class) is using Colaborate curriculum on both Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. This is a problem-based learning model that helps students discover for themselves the richness of the Bible, God, and faith. They are encouraged to bring their questions, curiosity, and yes, even doubts, to class every week. For more detail and a schedule, click on the Confirmation drop-down under Youth.

Throughout the year, we also provide opportunity for all ages - young and old – to come together for events ranging from service in the community to outstanding potlucks! We'll enjoy learning, serving and dining together, sharing foods from all the cultures that make up Christ on Capitol Hill. These include Cambodian, Eritrean, Ethiopian, German, Liberian, Norwegian, Spanish and more!

In December, we enjoy seeing our children share the story of Christ’s birth in a Christmas pageant during worship. One year, our littlest ones proclaimed throughout, “We should welcome Everyone!” They reminded us we can ALL share the message of Good News about Jesus!

Children are welcome at anytime! Visitor, friend, relative – we’d love to have you!
