Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.”
Matthew 19:14
Sunday School at Christ on Capitol Hill is a time to share God’s Word with the pre-school through 8th grade children. Our classes are grouped in the following manner:
Pre-K and Kindergarten
1st & 2nd grade
3rd, 4th & 5th grade
6th, 7th & 8th grade
In the younger two classrooms, “Godly Play” is used - an imaginative, interactive method for presenting the stories of the Bible. Children are asked wondering questions to express their understanding of the story, and how they are experiencing God and Jesus in their lives. What a blessing to hear the Word of God through our children’s thoughts and actions!
In 3rd grade, children are presented with their own Bible during a worship service in the fall. Families are asked to join with them as they are presented their new Bible by their Sunday School teacher. The 3rd, 4th & 5th grade class uses “Witness” Sunday School materials, along with their Bible, to "Learn from the Bible to Live the Good News."
The 6th, 7th & 8th grade class focuses on their Faith Formation (Confirmation) materials that they also discuss on Tuesday evenings.
A couple times per year, all ages - young and old – come together for Intergenerational Sunday School and the best potluck in town! Everyone enjoys learning and crafting together, then sharing foods from all the cultures that make up Christ on Capitol Hill. These include Cambodian, Eritrean, German, Liberian, Norwegian, and more!
In December, we enjoy seeing our children share the story of Christ’s birth in a Christmas pageant during worship. In 2012, we heard the little ones proclaim, “An Angel is a Messenger” and "We're All Angels!" so we can ALL share the message of Good News about Jesus!
Children are welcome at anytime! Visitor, friend, relative – we’d love to have you!
